Tinto De Verano (Red Wine Spritzer)

Hey Busy Moms, this post is for you! I recently came back from traveling in Madrid (first big trip without the kiddos in 10 years!) and was introduced to my new favorite summer beverage called Tinto De Verano, translated into English as Red Wine of Summer. I’ve always been a big Sangria fan and ordered it every chance I had while traveling. Then, I happened upon a tapas bar that didn’t have Sangria but recommended I try Tinto De Verano.

Always happy to try new things, I agreed and was pleasantly surprised. Tinto is a lighter, fresher tasting version of Sangria which was perfect for the hot days of summer. Since it uses half the amount of wine as Sangria, it is also a lower alcohol content beverage. Not to mention a lower calorie beverage as well with my healthier cheat sheet modifications in the recipe below.

I couldn’t wait to make it back home but when I researched Tinto recipes, I came to find that it is made with lemon-lime flavored soda (Sprite, 7-up and/or Fanta). As yummy as it tasted, I was determined to make a healthier version of this drink that still tasted delicious, light and without all the sugar and chemicals found in soda. Instead of soda, I used seltzer and a healthy squeeze of lemon, lime and orange. If you want it a bit sweeter, you can also add some whole leaf stevia.

Hope you enjoy, cheers!
