Za’Atar Toast: Take your avocado toast to the next level!

Hey Busy moms, dads & all caregivers!

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, you know that avocado toast is all the rage. Starting on menus of the hippest eateries, I recently saw it and ordered it from the menu of a basic airport restaurant.

I’ve been experimenting with how to take avocado toast up a notch and hit the jackpot by adding the ancient spice called Za’atar (click on the link for brand that I use).  This spice blend condiment is generally made with ground dried thyme, oregano, marjoram, and then mixed with toasted sesame seeds, salt, and other spices such as sumac.

Since ancient times, people in the Middle East have used za’atar to reduce and eliminate internal parasites.[44] Thyme (Thymus serpyllum) contains phenolic and antiseptic compounds including the essential oil and anthelmintic thymol. There was a belief that this intensely aromatic and ancient spice blend made the mind alert and the body strong and kids were encouraged to eat a za’atar sandwich before an exam.

This simple and delicious recipe for Za’atar Avocado Toast won’t disappoint! Try it for breakfast, lunch or even a healthy and filling snack.
